Polly Redd

Director of Communications and Formation

A cradle Episcopalian, Polly has been the Director of Formation and Communication at St. Mark’s since 2008. Born in Louisville, Kentucky and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and Huntsville, Alabama, Polly grew up always watching the boys do things in church that she was not allowed to do because she was a girl. When ordination opened up for women, she was sure that was what God was calling her to be, but after several trips into the “process”, it became very clear to her that her ministry was not in a collar but as a lay professional in the field of education. A graduate of Florida State with a degree in physical education and post graduate work in both science education and curriculum and administration, Polly has taught 2 year-olds through adults in a variety of settings. She was a teacher and principal in Mecklenburg County for many years and retired in 2004. Polly has been both a volunteer and a paid professional at 5 churches in 4 different dioceses and has served on many parish, diocesan, and national committees.

Polly has been married to Jim for over 50 years and they have 4 sons and 7 grandchildren located around the world. She enjoys reading and spending as much time as possible at their summer home in the Adirondacks. She lives in Denver, NC
